The concerts given by the Cadaqués Orchestra, the best-known Spanish classical orchestra on the international scene, lie at the heart of BCN Clàssics. Our future commitments include the opening concert at the Bremen Festival in August, three concerts at the Großés Festspielhaus in Salzburg in October, a tour with Vladimir Ashkenazy in May 2018, and a return visit to Austria and Slovakia in 2019, to mention some of the events on the agenda.
BCN Clàssics will bring you the highlights of our orchestra’s tours, together with concerts by guest orchestras and artists who fulfil the need to continue making music at the highest level.
For this second season at the Palau de la Música Catalana we have invited the legendary Berlin Philharmonic with Sir Simon Rattle; Daniel Barenboim, whose skills and talent are beyond description, playing a solo recital; the Bamberg Orchestra, one of the gems of Central Europe, accompanied by the incredible Viktoria Mullova; the Choir and Orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu under the baton of Josep Pons, performing Verdi’s “best opera”, his thrilling Requiem; and, in addition, the Cadaqués Orchestra conducted respectively by Gianandrea Noseda, Jaime Martín, with Gabriela Montero on piano, and Vladimir Ashkenazy, with Denis Kozhukhin also on piano.
We dedicate this programme to our great friend Sir Neville Marriner*, who last season departed from us forever after having conducted almost one hundred concerts with us. We will dedicate not one but two requiems to him this season: Verdi’s and Mozart’s, in recognition of so many years of friendship and talent. His passion remains with us.
*Sir Neville Marriner was principal guest conductor of the Cadaqués Orchestra from 1992 until the last day of his life.
