BCN CLÀSSICS
23/24

Introducing the new 23/24 BCN Clàssics season

For the 8th consecutive year we have prepared a top-quality programme consisting of a total of eight concerts at the Palau de la Música Catalana, between October and May.

We remain firm in our commitment to offering a series of concerts in Barcelona of the highest musical and artistic excellence. As usual, this season will feature the world’s finest soloists and conductors, as well as highly prestigious international orchestras, who will perform celebrated works from the universal repertoire and by local composers.

Great soloists

Violinist Maxim Vengerov will kick off the new season. Also on this instrument, Hilary Hahn will offer us a recital accompanied by the Washington National Symphony Orchestra; and Renaud Capuçon will lead the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra. Finally, we will close the season the immensely popular Hélène Grimaud on piano in works by Beethoven, Brahms and Bach.

Extraordinary orchestras and conductors

After the unfortunate cancellation of his concert last year, we are pleased to announce the return of Zubin Mehta at the head of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. Ton Koopman will lead the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra and Semion Bitchov will conduct the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. And you will also be able to enjoy the Washington National Symphony Orchestra and its renowned conductor Gianandrea Noseda. On a national level, Josep Vicent will conduct the ADDA Symphony Orchestra accompanied by a very special ensemble, the Orfeón Donostiarra.

Great repertoire

Beethoven's Ninth Symphony will be one of the major works of this new season, supported by the magnificent voices of the Orfeón Donostiarra choir. Johannes Brahms' Symphonies No. 2 and No. 4 will be performed by Zubin Mehta and the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Dvořák Festival will offer us the delights of the New World Symphony and the composer's Concerto for Cello and Orchestra. The season will also feature an exceptional Baroque work: The Musical Offering by J. S. Bach, under the baton of Ton Koopman.

Local Artists

We continue with our commitment to local classical music and present the Km0 concert programme for the third time. A total of four concerts that spotlight local performers and composers, as well as recovering musical heritage. You will be able to hear conductor Miquel Ortega on the piano; and Luis González will give a trumpet and piano recital.

In addition, composer Núria Giménez-Comas will star in a concert for voice and piano featuring her own works and pieces by Franz Schubert.

And we will close the season with Ramon Humet and Sílvia Vidal, a combination of piano and percussion (Tibetan bowls, quartz bowls and gong) with music by Frederic Mompou.

In recognition of their loyalty and trust, admission to the Km0 concerts is free for season ticket holders.
