After having to postpone the concert twice, first due to the airspace restrictions imposed by Donald Trump and subsequently because of the earthquakes, the Sinfónica Nacional Juvenil de Venezuela was finally able to perform at BCN Clàssics under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel.
In a deeply moving concert, held as part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of El Sistema, the conductor radiated happiness at being reunited with the orchestra that nurtured him and helped shape his career. The programme was a powerful one, with Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 7, “Leningrad” delivered with strength and conviction by a young orchestra brimming with talent.
As an encore, they treated us to a dazzling performance of Venezuelan composer Aldemaro Romero’s Fuga con pajarillo, which, as its title suggests, combines a traditional Venezuelan dance, the pajarillo, with a complex fugue.
