Gustavo Dudamel and the New York Philharmonic have inaugurated the 11th season of BCN Clàssics with a concert that marked the launch of their first joint European tour and the orchestra’s return to Barcelona after sixteen years.

The Spanish premiere of Invisible House by Zosha di Castri opened the evening, followed by a prolonged ovation that made the audience’s enthusiasm for such a special event abundantly clear. Next, the many singers of the Orfeó Català, the Cor de Noies de l’Orfeó Català and the Cor Infantil de l’Orfeó Català gave voice to John Adams’s moving On the Transmigration of Souls, a work composed in tribute to the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

The majestic Symphony No. 5 by Sergei Prokofiev opened the second half, confirming that we were in the presence of one of the great conductors of our time and one of the finest orchestras in the world. And that we had the privilege of experiencing them together.

As an encore, they treated us to the second movement, the Waltz, from Leonard Bernstein’s Divertimento.

Thank you for being part of this historic moment with BCN Clàssics.
