This Thursday, March 12, we presented our 11th edition, the 26/27 season of BCN Clàssics, at a press conference held at L’Auditori.
The season will open with an exceptional concert starring Gustavo Dudamel and the New York Philharmonic, which will return to Barcelona sixteen years after its last visit. On this occasion, it will be joined by one of the country’s leading choirs, the Orfeó Català. This ensemble will also take part in one of the two concerts by the Staatskapelle Dresden, which under the direction of Daniele Gatti will perform five Beethoven symphonies. The Ninth will be one of them and will feature the solo voices of Sara Blanch, Silvia Tro Santafé, Bernard Richter and Christian Gerhaher.

The edition will also feature other leading names from the international scene such as Semyon Bychkov with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the Münchner Philharmoniker conducted by Lahav Shani, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra under the baton of Klaus Mäkelä.
Female talent will play a prominent role in the programme, with renowned soloists such as Anne-Sophie Mutter, Sol Gabetta, Khatia Buniatishvili and Hélène Grimaud. Conductor Emmanuelle Haïm, a regular guest at BCN Clàssics, will also take part, bringing her distinctive baroque approach once again at the helm of Le Concert d’Astrée with a performance of Handel’s Messiah, featuring the voices of Lucy Crowe, Carlo Vistoli, Lunga Eric Hallam and Ashley Riches.
Among the major works in the repertoire are Mahler’s Symphony No. 9, with the Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse conducted by Kazuki Yamada; Stravinsky’s The Firebird, with the Berner Symphonieorchester led by Krzysztof Urbański; Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3, with Behzod Abduraimov; as well as an extensive programme dedicated to Richard Strauss and Max Bruch, with Augustin Hadelich, Marc Albrecht and the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.
The season will also include a tribute concert to Pau Casals marking the 150th anniversary of his birth, featuring cellist Pablo Ferrández, together with Roberto González-Monjas and the Musikkollegium Winterthur.
The programme will be completed with two events designed for all audiences: the traditional Christmas Concert, centred on the love story of Romeo and Juliet, with the ADDA Simfònica Alacant conducted by Josep Vicent, and a choral journey with the Vienna Boys’ Choir.
The Km0 series will continue to be an essential line of the project, with four concerts performed by local artists, with special attention to the recovery of musical heritage and to new creations.
Subscriptions for the new BCN Clàssics season are already on sale from today, March 12. Single tickets for the remaining concerts will go on sale on May 11. The season maintains the subscription options of 7 concerts at the Palau de la Música and 5 at L’Auditori, offering more choice for audiences.
