December is the season for Christmas concerts, and for the third time, the charm of the ADDA Simfònica Alicante, under the direction of Josep Vicent, filled the Palau de la Música Catalana with celebration.

From the very first moment, with the Suite from Tchaikovsky’s ballet Swan Lake, the atmosphere in the hall became both emotional and festive. So much so that Josep Vicent wanted to offer an encore even before the intermission, repeating the final scene of the same piece.

The excitement continued in the second half with the undisputed success of The Nutcracker, culminating in the final surprise: the Suite from Aram Khachaturian’s ballet Spartacus. The concert was personally dedicated by the conductor to Josep Roch, founder of the Schubertiada, who passed away recently, with another encore: Johannes Brahms’ Hungarian Dance No. 5.

Orchestra and conductor, united for almost twenty years, demonstrated absolute complicity from the very first note, with a distinctive sound that establishes them as one of the leading ensembles in the Spanish music scene. They showcased this once again with the final gift, in which Josep Vicent invited the entire audience to participate. Shostakovich’s Polka-Galop (from Moscow-Cheryomushki, Op. 105) closed a night filled with applause and a standing ovation.

Thank you all very much, and we wish you a Happy Holiday Season!
