L’Auditori hosted the highly anticipated debut of Khatia Buniatishvili at BCN Clàssics. The concert featured Franz Schubert’s Piano Sonata No. 21 in B-flat major, D. 960, full of subtlety and poetry, followed by Beethoven’s intense Piano Sonata No. 17 in D minor, Op. 31 No. 2 (“The Tempest”), performed with technical precision and great expressive depth.
To continue with an exciting journey into Liszt’s world: the Mephisto Waltz No. 1, his piano transcription of Gretchen am Spinnrade from Schubert’s 12 Lieder, and the vibrant Hungarian Rhapsody No. 6 in D-flat major.
The artist chose to dedicate two encores to an enthusiastic audience, bouquet of flowers included: the Adagio from the Concerto in D minor by Johann Sebastian Bach and Alessandro Marcello, and Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2.
Each piece showcased the pianist’s brilliant technique and dramatic energy, earning her ovations after every performance and culminating in prolonged applause at the end of the recital.
