Sol Gabetta has played with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, among others, and won prizes such as the Leonard Bernstein Award and the Prix Caecilia. On this occasion, she will accompany the Berner Symphonieorchester, founded in 1877, on a tour of Spain. Igor Stravinsky’s The Firebird is an emblematic twentieth-century composition, famous for its innovative and brilliant orchestration. Composed in 1910 for the Ballets Russes, Stravinsky made his international debut with this work and it established him as an influential and revolutionary composer.
Pieces by two other Russian composers will complete the programme: Dmitri Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1 and Modest Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain, orchestrated by Rimsky-Korsakov.
