Programme

Johannes Brahms Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77

Franz Schubert Symphony No. 9 in C major, D.944 (“The Great”)

Violinist Anne Sophie Mutter has been one of the more prominent figures on the international classical scene since her debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker at the age of 13. She has pursued an uninterrupted career since 1976 and won awards that include four Grammys, the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize and the Polar Music Prize.

This season, she will perform with the Münchner Philharmoniker, an orchestra founded in 1893 and with a history that includes premieres by figures such as Gustav Mahler. They will be conducted by Lahav Shani, winner of the 2013 Gustav Mahler International Conducting Competition and current music director of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, who will take over as principal conductor of the Münchner Philharmoniker during this 2026-2027 season.

The programme combines two great pillars of the classical repertoire: the Violin Concerto by Johannes Brahms, one of the most iconic works from the Romantic period for soloist and orchestra, and Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 9 “The Great”, the composer's longest and most ambitious work.
