John Adams On the Transmigration of Souls
Zosha Di Castri New work (Spanish premiere)
Serguéi Prokófiev Symphony No. 5, Op. 100
The season will open with an extraordinary concert lead by Gustavo Dudamel, one of the best-known and most charismatic conductors of our time, who returns to Barcelona with the New York Philharmonic, one of the oldest and most emblematic orchestras in the United States, which will be performing in Barcelona for the first time in sixteen years.
This time round, the North American ensemble will be accompanied by the Orfeó Català, one of the most prestigious choral institutions in Spain, which will once again share the stage following last February’s successful collaboration with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the self-same Gustavo Dudamel.
The programme combines contemporaneity with works of great emotional impact: On the Transmigration of Souls, by John Adams, a piece composed as a tribute to the victims of the September 11 attacks; the premiere of a commissioned work by the Canadian composer Zosha Di Castri; and the imposing Symphony No. 5 by Sergei Prokofiev, which will culminate the evening.
